How To Use Escape The Backrooms ModMenu

ETBMENU — Escape the Backrooms Mod Menu

by TheHolyOneZ ("TheZ") · zlogic.eu · downloads: zlogic.eu/mods/

A mod menu for Escape the Backrooms (Unreal Engine 4.27.2).
Fly and noclip, world ESP, navmesh routing, item giving, invincibility, entity
freezing, see-in-the-dark, Steam achievements — and a co-op troll tab for messing
with your friends.

Built for: Escape the Backrooms — the current Steam build, including the
Level 421 "Plastic Mariana" update. Tied to that build; a new game update may
require a rebuild.

🚨 YOU MUST RUN THE GAME IN BORDERLESS OR WINDOWED MODE. The menu draws as
an overlay on top of the game, and an overlay cannot draw over exclusive
fullscreen. If the game is fullscreen you will see nothing at all. Set this
before you start — see section 3, step 0.
Do it once and it sticks.

🚨 INJECT FROM THE MAIN MENU — NOT EARLIER. Start the game first and wait
until you are sitting on the main menu, then run the injector. If you inject
before the game is up, or during a loading screen, some features (ESP
especially) may not work for that session.

🛑 Only download ETBMENU from zlogic.eu/mods/.
Anything on any other site is not mine and is not safe.

1. What you get in the download

  • Inject-ETBMenu.exe — the injector, the thing you actually run
  • ETBMenu.dll — the menu itself (loaded by the injector)
  • README.md — the offline version of these steps
  • features.txt — the complete feature list
  • main.png — screenshot of the menu

Keep Inject-ETBMenu.exe and ETBMenu.dll in the same folder. The injector
looks for the DLL right next to itself.

2. Antivirus — read this first

Every game injector gets flagged by antivirus. Loading a DLL into another program
is exactly what real malware does, so Windows Defender throws a false positive.
The files are not infected — you just have to allow them, or Windows will delete
Inject-ETBMenu.exe the moment you extract it.

Allow it in Windows Defender

  1. Open Windows Security (search it in the Start menu).
  2. Virus & threat protection.
  3. Under Virus & threat protection settings → Manage settings.
  4. Scroll to Exclusions → Add or remove exclusions.
  5. Add an exclusion → Folder, and select the folder where you put Inject-ETBMenu.exe and ETBMenu.dll.

If it was already deleted / quarantined

  • Virus & threat protection → Protection history, find the ETBMENU entry, and choose Allow / Restore.
  • Then re-download or re-extract into your excluded folder.

Only ever do this for files from zlogic.eu/mods/. Never disable your
antivirus for random downloads.

3. How to run it — step by step

🚨 Step 0 — Set the game to Borderless or Windowed (required, do it once)

The menu does not work in exclusive fullscreen. This step is mandatory.

  1. Start Escape the Backrooms.
  2. Open the game's Settings → Video (or Display).
  3. Set Window Mode to Borderless (Windowed also works).
  4. Apply, and you're done — it stays set.

You only need to do this once; every launch afterwards is already correct.

  1. Start Escape the Backrooms and wait until you are on the main menu. Not the intro video, not a loading screen — the menu.
  2. Run Inject-ETBMenu.exe. A console window opens with the ETBMENU banner.
  • It shows a spinner while it looks for the game, then injects on its own and prints a green [+] Injected successfully.
  • If it says "OpenProcess failed (run as admin?)", close it, right-click → Run as administrator.
  • The console closes itself after a few seconds — that's normal, the menu stays loaded.
  1. Load into a level and wait until you are actually controlling your character.
  2. Open the menu with INSERT or RIGHT SHIFT. Same key closes it.
  • Nothing happens on the main menu or while loading — you must be in a level.

That's it. Tick what you want, close the menu, play.

Injected too early by mistake? Press END to unload, get back to the
main menu, and run the injector again. No need to restart the game.

4. Fly mode & noclip

The menu doesn't pass your keys to the game while it's open, so close the menu
before you fly
.

Movement tab → tick Fly mode, close the menu, then:

  • W / A / S / D — fly along the direction you're looking
  • SPACE — straight up
  • LEFT CTRL — straight down
  • LEFT SHIFT — hold to boost

Notes:

  • Fly speed and Boost multiplier sliders set how fast you go.
  • Noclip turns your collision off so you pass through walls and floors. It stacks with Fly mode. Always fly back into open air before switching Noclip off, or you'll get stuck inside geometry.
  • Turning Fly mode off drops you into a normal fall — land low first, or turn on Invincible so the fall doesn't hurt.

5. Hotkeys

  • INSERT or RIGHT SHIFT — open / close the menu
  • END — unload ETBMENU from the game (clean exit)
  • SPACE / LEFT CTRL / LEFT SHIFT — fly up / down / boost (while flying, menu closed)

6. Staying alive — Invincible and its one limitation

Player tab → Invincible pins the game's own "can be killed" flag off, so
monster contact-kills don't register. It does this without hooking any game
functions, which is why it can't break scripted tasks.

⚠️ Invincible does NOT cover environmental hazards. Electric floors,
drowning and fire are scripted task mechanics, not monster kills, and they will
still get you. Avoid standing in them.

If something ever still kills you, Freeze entities is the guaranteed backstop
— frozen monsters can't move, chase or attack at all.

7. Playing with friends — what works and what doesn't

This is co-op, so it matters who is hosting.

Works for you either way — fly, noclip, ESP, path routing, objectives,
see in dark, FOV, timescale, teleport, invincible, freeze entities, infinite
sanity/stamina, longer reach, Steam achievements.

Only works when YOU are the host — the entire Troll tab, and giving
yourself items so they stay.

That's how the game's networking works: the host is the network authority. As a
plain client the server simply ignores those changes.

Test on ME in the Troll tab applies any effect to your own screen, so you can
preview exactly what a friend would see before you use it on them.

8. The Troll tab

Troll tab, while hosting. Pick Everyone or one player from the live
list, then fire an effect.

  • Drain sanity (hold) is the real one — the victim's own game plays its insanity, blur and warning effects as their sanity drops.
  • Give full sanity puts it back.
  • Others: freeze their legs, faint/collapse, drowning, plague, yeet (launch them up), root (walk speed 0), super speed, toggle their flashlight, give them a card, and KILL.

9. Items

Items tab gives an item straight into your inventory: Flashlight, Crowbar,
Knife, Chainsaw, Camera, Almond Water / Bottle, Bug Spray, Firework, Glowsticks,
Ticket, Toy — with a quantity.

Items you give yourself stay reliably when you're the host. As a client the
server may take them back.

10. World ESP & Path

World ESP draws boxes, names and distances for levers/interactables, items,
entities and players — each with its own colour, plus a whitelist and blacklist
so you can show only what you care about. Players show their real Steam names,
and used levers can be hidden once you've pulled them.

Path opens a manager where you search for an actor by name, add it as a
waypoint, and the menu draws a real navmesh route to it — an actual walkable
path, not a straight line. You can teleport to any waypoint from the list.

Objectives is marked BETA: it tries to label the key → door → elevator →
lever progression chain and route you to it. Detection is still rough on some
levels, so treat it as a helper rather than a guarantee.

11. How to turn it off

  • Close the menu — INSERT / RIGHT SHIFT. Untick anything you don't want.
  • Unload completely without closing the game — press END. The overlay disappears and the DLL detaches. You can re-run the injector afterwards.
  • Full reset — just close the game. Nothing is left running.

12. Troubleshooting

Menu injects but nothing shows
The game is in exclusive fullscreen. Set it to Borderless or Windowed
(Step 0) and restart.

Menu won't open
You're not in a level yet, or the game window isn't focused. Click the game once
and try again. It never opens on the main menu or during loading.

ESP or other features do nothing, but the menu opens fine
You probably injected too early. Press END to unload, get to the main menu,
and run the injector again.

Files got deleted or blocked
Antivirus false positive — see section 2.

Injector can't find ETBMenu.dll
Put it in the same folder as Inject-ETBMenu.exe.

"OpenProcess failed"
Run the injector as administrator.

Troll effects do nothing on my friends
You're a client, not the host — see
section 7.

I died with Invincible on
It was almost certainly an environmental hazard, not a monster — see
section 6.

Everything's ticked but nothing happens
The game was updated — the offsets need re-dumping for the new build.

A log file, ETBMenu.log, is written next to the DLL, in
...\EscapeTheBackrooms\EscapeTheBackrooms\Binaries\Win64\. Include it if you
ask for help.

13. Found a bug / something feels off?

Please include:

  1. What you were doing when it happened
  2. Whether you were the HOST or a CLIENT
  3. The log file ETBMenu.log from EscapeTheBackrooms\Binaries\Win64\

That log records which features resolved on your build, so it usually points
straight at the cause.
